Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party led by SHO Police Station Sheeri under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Baramulla Sajjad Bukhari during naka checking at Fatehgarh Sheeri intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during the searches 140 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession, adding therein that the accused was later identified as Majeed Ahmad Sofi S/o Abdul Ahad Sofi R/o Fatehgarh Sheeri who have been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Sheeri and initiated an investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that police will act strictly against the people found indulging in drug peddling.
