Bandipora : Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Gurez on Sunday celebrated ‘World Bee Day’ to signify the vital role played by Beed in the environment.
On the occasion, an awareness cum sensitization programme was organized at the Research and Extension centre of SKUAST-K at Izmarg Gurez.
A large number of beekeepers from adjoining villages attended the function.
Chairman of Block Development Council presided over the function while Sarpanch of Izmarg was the special invitee in the function. Officials from line departments were also present in the programme.
Dr. Bilal Ahmed Bhat, Head KVK-Gurez, while stressing on the diverse medicinal flora of the region said that there is a huge potential for Apiculture sector particularly honey with medicinal properties in this region.
He said that to motivate youth of the region towards bee keeping, skill trainings will be conducted. He further advised the youths of the region to come forward and take apiculture as an entrepreneurial activity.
Earlier, the programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS (Ag. Extension). Dr. Kumar in his address highlighted the importance of celebrating various important national and international days.
This year the theme of the day also focuses on bees as pollinators for friendly agricultural production.
The bee keepers of the region also raised various queries which were addressed by the experts of KVK-Gurez.
BDC chairman and Sarpanch appreciated the efforts of KVK-Gurez.
