Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested four persons and also seized five vehicles from their possession for being involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting swiftly on specific inputs about extraction and transportation of minerals in the jurisdiction of Police Station Qazigund a Police party of Police Station Qazigund raided the specific location and arrested four persons besides seizing 5 vehicles including two tippers, two tractors and a JCB machine involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from the Nallah/river at Sandran, adding therein that the arrested persons were later identified as Aqib Wani R/o Waphzan Bijbehara, Aijaz Dar R/o Arwani Bijbehara and Idrees Bhat and Rahil Farooq Bhat, both residents of YK Pora.
Stating that police accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at police station Qazigund and accordingly initiated an investigations into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement reiterated that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed them to cooperate with it by sharing the information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
