Srinagar : A departmental inquiry has been ordered after a school building at Guloora village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district developed cracks months after it was handed over to the education department.
The building belonging to Government High School Guloora in the Langate education zone has developed cracks.
Sources in the department said that the construction work of the building started back in 2020. “The work multiple times was stopped given the dearth of funds and some other issues known to the higher authorities. The estimated cost is not known precisely,” the official said.
The official said that the school has a good number of students enrolled.
The official also said that they have nothing to do with the construction work. “We don’t have any part in the construction work. We don’t have any say other than giving a handover takeover certificate. It is the concerned department who has to look into it,” the official said.
About the management, the official said that it is a clubbed school and has three schools including a middle school operating from there.
The official further said that the building was handed over to them in November last year after its completion.
“It’s unfortunate that the building has already developed serious cracks. It shouldn’t have happened even for many years to come, ” a local requesting anonymity said.
He also said that those responsible must face action. “This is not an ordinary structure but rather a school building. Our future is enrolled here. This must be treated as a serious issue,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Education Officer (CEO) Manzoor Ahmad who has been appointed as the head of the inquiry team said that the investigation is going on.
Locals have sought action against those involved in the negligence of the construction of the building. “It must be properly verified.”
He said that it is a clubbed school and has about three institutions functioning there.
