Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara police districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg assisted by SHO PS Kunzer during patrolling at Dhobiwan Kunzer intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot, but were apprehended and during searches 225 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession, adding therein that the accused were later identified as Bilal Ahmad Khanday S/o Bashir Ahmad Khanday R/o Utikoo & Sahil Ahmad Lone S/o Riyaz Ahmad Lone R/o Ferozpora Tangmarg who were accordingly arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement further said that in an another similar action in Handwara district a police party of PS Handwara arrested four drug peddlers including a juvenile during patrolling at New Bus Stand Handwara and were identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Shafi R/o Braripora, Moomin Masood Qureshi /S/o Masood Ul Hussain Qureshi R/o Zargar Mohalla Handwara, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat S/o Nazir Ahmad R/o Herpora Handwara and a juvenile (name withheld) and during searches 338 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession.
Stating that police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated the investigations into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned people indulging in drug peddling of strict actions as per law
