Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and Anantnag and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla district, a police party led by SHO PS Kreeri under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri Khalid Ashraf established a checkpoint on Baramulla-Srinagar highway near Tapper and stopped a vehicle (Hyundai i10) bearing registration number JK04E-9527, adding therein that during searches 22 grams of Heroin like substance was recovered from possession of the accused identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar S/o Gh Hassan Dar R/o Gojra Jageer Budgam.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in another similar action, a police party of PS Sheeri under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Sajjad Bukhari during naka checking at Gantamulla intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during search, 5 grams of Brown Sugar like substance & 60 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon were recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Firdous Ahmad Sheikh S/o Abdul Jabbar Sheikh R/o Dachina Mohura. Police in it’s statement further said that both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
In its statement Police furthermore said that in Anantnag district also, a police party from Police Station Aishmuqam at a checkpoint established at Main Chowk Logripora Aishmuqam arrested one drug peddler identified as Mohd Yousuf Chopan S/o Mohd Rajab Chopan R/o Reshkubal along with about 12Kgs of Charas Chura.
Stating that police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated an investigation into the matter, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned of stern actions against the people indulging in drug peddling and other anti-social activities.
