8 drug peddlers arrested, psychotropic substances recovered, case registered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested eight (8) drug peddlers in Ganderbal, Sopore and Budgam districts respectively and also recovered psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Ganderbal, a police party led by In-charge Police Post Shadipora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal at a checkpoint established at Waskoora intercepted a vehicle (Scorpio) bearing registration number JK01V-7981 driven by Ajaz Ahmad Malik S/o Manzoor Ahmad Malik R/o Waskoora, adding therein that during searches huge consignment of psychotropic substances including 140 codeine phosphate bottles kept hidden under the window cardboards of the said vehicle were recovered and seized and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s above quoted statement further said that in a similar action at Sopore also, a police party of Police Station Tarzoo at a checkpoint established at Ningli Bala Nambal intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number DL3CAB-3898 with six 96)persons on board who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully and during searches 888 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon were recovered from the vehicle . Police in it’s statement identified the said accused as Muhammad Ibrahim Sofi S/o Muhammad Sultan and Zubair Ahmad Bhat S/o Abdul Rashid Bhat, both residents of Aalibagh Hygam, Tanveer Ahmad Sumji @Pintoo S/o Farooq Ahmad Sumji R/o Sher Colony Sopore, Imran Manzoor Guroo S/o Manzoor Ahmad GurooR/o Khushal Colony Sopore, Arshad Rashid Wani S/o Abdul Rashid Wani resident of Izzat Shah Colony Sopore and Shabir Ahmad Bhat S/o Ali Mohammad Bhat resident of Amargarh Sopore and further more said that the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
Stating that in Budgam also, a police party of Police Post Soibugh at a checkpoint established at Harran, intercepted a vehicle (Ford Eco-sports) bearing registration number DL10CT-4968 driven by Nisar Ahmad Sheikh S/o Ghulam Nabi Sheikh R/o Sector D Hamdaniya Colony Bemina and during searches recovered 330 strips of Tapentadol (3300 tablets) and 25 strips of Spasmo-Proxyvon (200 capsules) and the vehicle used for commission of crime has also been seized, police in it’s statement also said “the preliminary investigation revealed that the said accused person is a chronic drug peddler as he was selling the illegal drugs among the youth of district Budgam distt”, adding that “various FIRs have already been registered against the accused person in different police stations in district Srinagar”.
Police in it’s above quoted statement further said that all the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the case was accordingly registered under relevant sections of law in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that stringent actions will be taken against the people indulging in drug peddling.
