Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it seized illicit timber in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Handwara districts and arrested 2 accused persons involved in the commission of crime.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Uri under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali assisted by SHO PS Uri, arrested two timber smugglers identified as Hakim Din S/o Faqir Mohd Sheikh & Qadeer Ahmad S/o Hakim Din Sheikh both residents of Choolan Kalsan Uri also involved in cutting down forest timber illegally and selling at higher rates, adding therein said that the illicit forest timber measuring about 40 CFTs was recovered from their possession in Choolan Uri and the arrested persons were shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s above statement further said that in the intervening night of 4th and 5th May in Handwara district, Police Post Chogul seized 3 logs of illicit timber from the possession of one person namely Aijaz Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Rajab Dar R/o Haran Takibal who had taken the advantage of the darkness of the night managed to flee from the spot. Police in it’s statement however said that the efforts are on to effect his arrest, as soon as possible.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law in respective Police Stations and initiated investigation to ascertain the facts on ground, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement said the for the protection of green gold, the drive against timber smugglers will always remain in operation and also resolved to act tough against the persons involved in criminal and anti-social activities.
