Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested three militant associates in Awantipora and Shopian districts of South Kashmir and also recovered incriminating materials, arms & ammunition from their possession.
In a statement issued from the Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said while acting on specific inputs, Awantipora Police with the assistance of Anantnag Police, Army (42RR) (03RR) and CRPF (180Bn) launched a joint cordon & search operation on 04/05/2023 in Tral Awantipora and during searches arrested two militant associates of JeM militant outfit identified as Bashir Ahmad and Gulzar Ahmad, both residents of Tral Awantipora who were shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Police in it’s statement also said that on the disclosure of the above named militant associates , arms & ammunition including 01 AK-56, 02 AK Magazine, 56 AK live rounds, 3 Pistols, 6 Pistol Magazines, 24 Pistol live Rounds and other incriminating materials have been recovered. Stating that police has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Tral and initiated a further course of investigation into the case.
Police in it’s above referred statement further said that the timely and effective action of it along with the security forces by busting the militant associates module have resulted in averting the possible major tragedy and has accordingly avoided the designs of JeM to recruit young boys for their illegal and Unlawful Activities.
Stating further that in a similar kind of action in Shopian district a joint party of Shopian Police, Army (34RR) and CRPF (178Bn) during naka checking at Nagisheran intercepted an individual who tried to evade the joint party suspiciously but was apprehended tactfully by the alert joint party and he was later identified as Mohd Asgar Dar S/o Mohd Amin Dar R/o Nagisheran Shopian.
Police in its above statement furthermore said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 1 pistol, 1 magazine and 8 live rounds were recovered from the possession of the said militant associate.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement said “preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was working as a militant associate of LeT militant outfit and accordingly, the case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and further course of investigation has also been initiated to ascertain the facts on ground.
