Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and Handwara districts respectively and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party in Kulgam headed by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established near Main market Mirbazar intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK02B-C7973 driven by Swarn Singh S/o Late Rattan Singh R/o Chanani Udhampur, adding therein that during searches 5kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance were recovered from his possession and the accused was arrested immediately and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Police in it’s statement also said that vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized, adding therein that in a similar action a police party of Police Post Chogul Handwara at a checkpoint established at Badshah Khan on Sopore-Kupwara highway, intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully. Stating that the said arrested person was later identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh @Nadeem S/o Gh Mohammad R/o Maidan Chogul and during search, about 70 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession following which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Police in it’s statement further said that it has accordingly registered cases under relevant section of law in the respective police stations and initiated an investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding anti-social elements in their neighbourhood but warned the people that those found indulging in anti-social activities will be dealt as per law.
