4 drug peddlers arrested , contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Sopore and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a police party led by SHO Police Station Yaripora at a checkpoint established at Kanjikulla Crossing intercepted a suspicious person and during searches recovered 4 grams of Heroin like substance from his possession, adding therein that the accused has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Wani S/o Ghulam Rasool Wani R/o Wongipora Harmain, Shopian. Stating that at another checkpoint established at Matibugh, a police party intercepted a suspicious person identified as Mohd Iqbal Shah S/o Mohd Amin Shah R/o Munnad and during searches recovered 4 grams of Heroin like substance from his possession, Police in it’s statement further said that a police party led by SHO police station DH Pora at a checkpoint established at Village Yaroo intercepted a suspicious person who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that during searches 130 grams of Cannabis Powder like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Mohd Shafi Sheikh S/o Ali Mohammad Sheikh R/o Yaroo.
Stating that in Sopore also, a police party of Police Post Warpora during patrolling at Dangerpora intercepted a suspicious person at Umerabad who tried to escape while noticing Police Party but was apprehended tactfully and during searches recovered 1Kg 222grams of charas like substance from the possession of the said accused identified as Showkat Ahmad Sofi S/o Ab Satar R/o Rajbagh Dangerpora, Police in it’s statement furthermore said that the accused was a notorious drug peddler and was carrying the contraband substance for selling it to the youth in and outside the area of Zaingeer.
Furthermore, the police in its statement also said that all the accused persons were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, adding therein that police accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and investigation has been also initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police reiterated it’s commitment to make all possible efforts to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
