Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested eight (8) gamblers in separate actions in Baramulla and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Sheeri acting on specific inputs about presence of gamblers at Barrage Gantamulla raided the specific spot and arrested five gamblers who tried to flee from the spot, adding therein that the accused have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Tantray S/o late Abdul Jabbar R/o Kanthbagh Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Najar S/o late Abdul Ahad, Abdul Majeed Teli S/o Ghulam Din Teli and Ghulam Nabi S/o Mohammad Rajab Najar, all residents of Banglowbagh Baramulla and Shabir Ahmad S/o Gh Mohammad Wani R/o Khanpora Baramulla. Police in it’s statement further said that it has also seized stake money of Rs. 34,650/- and playing cards from their possession.
Stating that in a similar action a police party of Police Station Pattan while acting on specific inputs about presence of gamblers at Iqbal Colony Pattan, raided the specific spot and arrested 3 gamblers from the spot identified as Waseem Ahmad Khanday S/o Gh Mohd, Altaf Ahmad Shah S/o Gh Ahmad Shah and Ab Hamid Miyan S/o Ab Rashid Miyan, all residents of Pattan, Police in it’s statement further said that playing cards alongwith stake money of Rs. 4,960/ were also recovered from the possession of the said accused, adding therein that police has also registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
