Dir Agriculture (J) inspects developmental activities at NVPGH, Vegetable Demonstration Unit

Record 2.47 Cr Vegetable Seedlings distributed during 2022-23 in Jammu Division

Jammu : Director Agriculture Production & Farmer Welfare Jammu, K.K. Sharma took stock of various developmental activities being untaken at Vegetable Demonstration Unit, Krishi Bhawan, Talab Jammu, here Saturday. Different Vegetable, Floral, Ornamental, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants are being grown here utilizing the latest scientific techniques for the demonstration purpose for visiting farmers from different districts.
He was accompanied by Joint JDA (Inputs), JDA (Extension), JDA (Marketing), Agronomist, Vegetable Improvement Scheme beside other officers and staff of the Scheme.
Director Agriculture on the occasion distributed Vegetable Seedlings among the Vegetable Growers of Marh, Sub-Division in presence of the field functionaries. The distributed seedlings include Tomato, Brinjal, Marigold, Cucurbits, Chillies, Knol-Khol raised under Naturally Ventilated Polygreen House Structure (NVPGH).
Director Agriculture while interacting with the growers & field functionaries on the occasion stressed to motivate the farmers to go for the production of exotic and high value vegetables under protected and controlled conditions to get round the year production & high returns.
He said that to attract educated unemployed youth towards agriculture entrepreneurship every possible effort should be made to popularize latest interventions by the department. It was apprised that 15 lakh seedlings of different vegetables under NVPGH structures have been raised and distributed among the farmers during the year 2022-23 and Rs. 6.75 lakh revenue has been realized from this record distribution. In addition Rs. 2.03 lakh revenue has been remitted on account of sale of Medicinal, Aromatic and Ornamental Plants during the financial year (2022-23) raised in the departmental nurseries.
It was also apprised that a record high 2.47 Crore Vegetable Seedlings have been produced and distributed by Public & Private Sector Seedling Nurseries in Jammu Division during 2022-23. The Director also inspected the work of installation of Oil Extraction Unit for Medicinal & Aromatic Plants and renovation work of Glasshouse Structure.
