Srinagar : Police on Tuesday alongwith civil authorities in Baramulla have destroyed Poppy cultivation in villages of Kamalkote, Shadra Sarai areas of Uri sector.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that acting on information received by police regarding illegal cultivation of Poppy at Kamalkote, Shadra, Sarai areas of Uri sector in District Baramulla, a police party led by Incharge Police Post Kamalkote under the supervision of SDPO Uri alongwith Magistrate concerned reached the specific spot and destroyed huge quantity of Poppy cultivation spread over 4-5 kanals of land.
Stating that it has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Uri and investigation has been initiated, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood and reiterated that persons found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt strictly under law.
