Srinagar : A mudslide in the Rezan area of Gund in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday led to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh highway.
The incident occurred at approximately 4 am, prompting the rescue workers to quickly respond to the situation.
An official said that there was no loss of life or injury. However, the mudslide did damage the electricity poles which were later restored by the employees of the Power Development Department (PDD), he said.
The Sub-District Magistrate (SDM) Kangan, Tehsildar Gund and other officials visited the spot to take stock of the situation, the official said.
He said the road is currently being cleared and the traffic on the Srinagar-Sonamarg road is expected to resume soon. Till then, the traffic has been rerouted via Zirpora road, he added.
A significant landslide occurred in the same area on February 19 which caused extensive damage to multiple homes
