Srinagar: Former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, several politicians and civil officials have greeted people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramadhan.

As the Shawwal moon was not sighted today, the Eid is being celebrated on Saturday in Kashmir valley.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah, extended warm greetings to people on the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“I extend my warm wishes to people on the auspicious occasion praying that the Almighty accepts our month-long fasting, repentance, prayers and rectitude”, Dr Farooq said,

He urged the affluent class in the society to help those who do not have any resources to celebrate Eid.

Farooq said that the prevailing situation has regrettably increased the social gap with uncertainty looming large over the poorest of poor, daily wagers, marginal farmers pushing them to the brink of hunger.

He said on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the well off in our society should lend all support to the people in need.

Party Vice President Omar Abdullah said, “On this day we should include the underprivileged in our happiness. There is no superior act than sharing our resources with the people in need.”

“I wish the candles of piety and faith remain lit in our families and neighbourhood throughout the year. I extend my warm wishes to the people on the auspicious eve with a view that the needs of the people at need are taken care of by the affluent ones. May the auspicious day increase the prospects of peace, prosperity, and brotherhood in J&K”, he said.

Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on the auspicious occasion reminded people the real essence of Eid and said the day demanded them to remember the poor and needy and share the happiness with them.

She said, “The spirit behind the observance of Eid-ul-Fitr is to express our thanks to Almighty Allah for giving us the courage to observe fast in the month of Ramadhan.”

Mayor SMC, Junaid Azim Mattu has extended heartiest greetings to people in particular the Muslim ummah on Eid-ul Fitr.

In his message, Mattu said Eid Mubarak to all countrymen, especially Muslim brothers and sisters! “Celebrated after the holy month of Ramzan, this festival is a holy occasion to strengthen brotherhood and harmony in society.

This festival is the celebration of sincere devotion, charity and gratitude to the Almighty,” he said.

Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri in his message prayed that this Eid brings peace and prosperity and espouses harmony among citizens.

He said this festival teaches us to share happiness with poor and needy people by offering charity generously.
