Pulwama : Acting tough against delinquent and erring business establishments, traders & dealers, the Executive Magistrates and the market checking squads of FCS&CA Pulwama on Thursday carried out an extensive market checking drive throughout the length and breadth of the district, imposing strictly the directions of Worthy District Magistrate Pulwama regarding rates and quality.
The aim of holding extensive market checking was to regulate price line and quality control of essential commodities in the markets of Pulwama district during these holy days.
A team of revenue officials and MC Pulwama headed by Naib Tehsildar Pulwama carried out a market checking in order to foil any bid of overpricing and to ensure smooth regulation of traffic.
Similarly, market checking was conducted by the officials of MC Khrew and a fine of Rs 1700 was charged against adulteration and overpricing from various shopkeepers.
While interacting with the shopkeepers, the team members asked them to display rate lists at prominent places and adhere to the rates approved, keep shops neat and clean and ensure that all package commodities sold to the consumers must bear MRP, Package date, Net Content and other related information.
District Magistrate Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary earlier said that no one will be allowed to resort to overcharging, black marketing, profiteering, and adulteration especially during these holy days.
He, however, appealed to the general public to cooperate with the Department and come forward wherever any instance of wrongdoing is found. Public has a greater role to play in checking violations at trade and other public places, DM added.
The violator traders were warned of more stern action against them in case they continue doing violations.
Further, the shopkeepers were advised to display the rate list on the conspicuous place of their shops and restrain from overcharging and in case of failure, action as warranted under relevant law shall be taken against the erring shopkeepers. Moreover, Butchers /Chicken sellers were directed to maintain hygiene/Sanitation & Provide quality of meat to the Consumers mandated as per the Food Safety & Standards Act-2006.
