Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara and Budgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Handwara, a police party of Police Post Zachaldara at a checkpoint established at Sultanpora crossing intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot on seeing the police party but were apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during searches 45 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar @Jungle S/o Mohd Sultan R/o Lachipora and Bilal Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Anwar Khan R/o Wadipora who were shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that in Budgam district also, a police party of Police Station Chadoora at a checkpoint established at Nowpora Chadoora, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag , adding therein that upon searching the said bag, Poppy Straw weighing about 18 Kgs was recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Riyaz Ahmad Ahanger S/o Ghulam Mohiudin R/o Watakalo Charar shareef who were arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that after sustained questioning, on the disclosure of the above named accused eight (8) more nylon bags containing Poppy Straw weighing about 125 Kgs were recovered from deserted shed located at Nowpora Chadoora, adding there in that cases under relevant sections of law were also registered in respective police stations and investigation was also initiated.
In the concluding para of it’sabove quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reiterated that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
