7 drug peddlers arrested with contraband substances: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested seven drug peddlers in Baramulla, Handwara, Kulgam & Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Pattan under the supervision of Mohammad Nawaz at a checkpoint established as Hanjiwara Pattan intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during checking 210 SpasmoProxyvon capsules were recovered from his possession following which he was dentified as Syed Ahmad Shah S/o Syed Mustafa Ahmad R/o Dewar Yakhmanpora Pattan.
Stating that in a similar action in Kulgam, a police party led by SHO Police Station Kulgam during naka checking at Dalwach intercepted a suspicious person identified as Ghulam Rasool Bhat S/o Ghulam Mohammad Bhat R/o Nussu Badragund and during searches 2.5Kg of Poppy Straw like substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession following which the accused was arrested and a case vide FIR No 64/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered in PS Qazigund and investigation was initiated.
In another similar action Police said that during the course of investigation and based on the disclosure of arrested person, two more drug peddlers identified as Bilal Ahmad Ganaie S/o Mohd Jabbar Ganaie R/o Nussu Badragund and Mohd Ayub Malik S/o Ghulam Mohd Malik R/o Brinal Lammar were arrested with 4Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance.
Stating that at another checkpoint established at Dalwach crossing on NHW-44 one more drug peddler identified as Mudasir Ahmad Ganaie S/o Bashir Ahmad Ganaie R/o Hassanpora, Bijebhara was arrested alongwith 34 Codeine Phosphate bottles, Police in it’s statement further said that in Handwara also, a police party of Police Station Vilgam during naka checking at Sumo Stand Vilgam intercepted a person who had attempted to avoid the police party in a suspicious manner. Stating that during searches around 30 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Basharat Ahmad Tantray S/o Bashir Ahmad R/o Dahama, Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in Anantnag also, a police party of PS Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Naina Bridge intercepted a vehicle (I20) bearing registration number JK02CH-2777 driven by Waseem Farooq Koka S/o Farooq Ahmad Koka R/o Naina Batpora. “During search, Brown Sugar like substance was recovered from the said vehicle and the accused has been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”, reads the above referred Police statement, adding therein that all the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Police in it’s statement also said that it has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. Police also reassured the people that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
