Srinagar: Police in Kulgam alongwith concerned departments of civil administration held intensive market checking at DH Pora, Mirhama, Kund, and other adjacent areas.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar while interacting with the shopkeepers, the team members asked them to display rate lists, keep shops neat and clean and ensure that all packaged commodities sold to consumers must bear MRP, Package date, Net Content and other related information. They also appealed to the general public to bring into the notice of the administration if they found anyone indulging in overcharging of essential commodities so that timely action against the culprits will be taken. Also fine to the tone of Rs 5000 was collected from erring shopkeepers who also were directed to be corrective in future otherwise contravention will abide strict action under law. Also, unhygienic/rotten fruits/ vegetables & expired items were destroyed on spot.
The locals appreciated the act and hoped that such drives would continue in future as well.
