Though the spirit of quality education lies in similarities in the working of Private and Government schools but in Jammu & Kashmir disparity in the working of Government and private schools is yet to be addressed and consequently the dream of quality education remains as elusive as it was decades ago. Though there is talk about change in the patterns of education in schools but changing the patterns in Government schools and allowing the private schools to execute their own patterns of teaching-learning process and continue their own practices and procedures for admissions won’t go well with the agenda of quality education in Jammu & Kashmir. While teachers in Government schools are appointed through a proper selection process conducted by J&K Government’s independent recruitment agency J&K Services Selection Recruitment Board, no practices and procedures are in place for selection of teachers in private schools. Not direct involvement but regulation of the selection process for appointment of teachers in private schools by the Government if made mandatory could bring transparency in the recruitment of teachers at Private Schools. While training courses are conducted for the professional development of Government teachers by the School Education Department during two and a half month winter vacation period in Kashmir Valley, no such training courses are conducted for teachers of private schools despite the fact that teachers of private also need training for their professional development. While the conduct of training programs for the professional development of teachers of Government schools goes well with the spirits of quality education, the compromise on training of the teachers of private schools for their professional development goes against the spirits of quality education.

“Since there is a new-found tendency to regard innovation with respect rather than intimidation, it would be better for the Government to generate greater interest in the working of digital learning platforms amongst both the teachers and as well as the students at Government schools. While training of teachers cannot ensure that every teacher achieves excellence in teaching, but advanced training of teachers bring changes in the teaching-learning process the ultimate beneficiary of which is the student and henceforth equal focus on training of Government and private teachers on working of digital learning platforms is equally a priority for both”.

Since digital literacy is part of school Education, the teachers of both private and Government schools need to know all about the working of digital learning platforms keeping in view the fact that students are hugely benefited from digital learning platforms .Since the online education system has changed the very patterns of education across the country, the working of schools has also changed during last few years. While the students of private schools know all about the working of digital learning platforms, the students of Government schools very rarely know about the working of digital learning platforms. Since there is a new-found tendency to regard innovation with respect rather than intimidation, it would be better for the Government to generate greater interest in the working of digital learning platforms amongst both the teachers and as well as the students at Government schools. While training of teachers cannot ensure that every teacher achieves excellence in teaching, but advanced training of teachers bring changes in the teaching-learning process the ultimate beneficiary of which is the student and henceforth equal focus on training of Government and private teachers on working of digital learning platforms is equally a priority for both.
