Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has seized 16 vehicles and also arrested 16 persons in Awantipora and Baramulla for being involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals case.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Awantipora, a Police party led by SHO Police Station Khrew under the supervision of SDPO Pampore seized eight vehicles (02 JCBs, 05 tippers & 01 loader) and arrested 8 persons for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals at Wuyan, adding therein that similarly a Police party led by SHO Police Station Awantipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora seized three vehicles (tippers) and arrested 3 persons involved in illegal extraction of sand at Hatiwara and Aghanjipora.
Stating that similarly in Baramulla, officers from PS Baramulla under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla Sajjad Bukhari seized 5 vehicles (2 tippers, 3 tractors) and arrested 5 persons at Chakloo Baramulla for illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, Police in it’s statement further said that the accused persons have been identified as Javid Ahmad S/o Bashir Ahmad Bhat R/o Qazi Hamam Baramulla, Shabir Ahmad Dar S/o Ghulam Nabi Dar R/o Zoogiyar Sheeri, Manzoor Ahmad Ganie S/o Ab Khaliq Ganie R/o Mohalla Khawaja Sahib Kakar Hamam Baramulla, Suhail Ahmad S/o Ghulam Nabi Sheikh R/o Chakloo and Mudasir Ahmad Sofi S/o Ab Rahim Sofi R/o Chakloo Baramulla.
Stating that it has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement warned that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law and also appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
