17th Management Dev Prog (MDP) concludes at SMGS Hospital

Jammu : The two day State Level Management Development Programme of doctors and Nursing Professionals organised at the Stephens College of nursing concluded Wednesday with a grand Valedictory Function.
The event was organised in association with the Academy of Hospital Administration, India. Chand Kishore Sharma, Additional Secretary to Government Health & Medical Education Department was the chief guest. Satinder Saini, Director Stephens college for nursing and Dr Arun Sharma Medical Superintendent Maternity Hospital Gandhi Nagar (General Secretary AHA Jammu Chapter) were also present on the occasion.
A cultural programme was presented on the occasion followed by distribution of certificates among the programme coordinators, volunteers and staff of Stephens College and AHA who organized the programme, along with participants.
Sadiq Khan, Mass Media Officer and national trainer and member of AHA was the main stage coordinator for the valedictory function. Ritu Gupta, stephens college presented vote of thanks
The participants were from Jammu Division including Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals, and District Hospitals under Directorate of Health Services Jammu. More than 140 participants took part in the training, besides students etc. Resource persons and moderators of sessions were from all over J&K.
In J&K, since June 2022, the AHA India has organized 17 training programmes (MDP’s) including 5 day Management Development programme (MDP) for medical officers – 1 at Jammu; Two dayMDP – 7 (SMGS Hospital, ASCOMS Sidhra, GMC Rajouri, GMC Doda, GMC Kathua, Bee Enn college of nursing, SMVDNSSH Katra); One day training programmes of nurses – 3
In Kashmir, Kashmir, AHA hosted a 5 day Management Development programme (MDP) for medical officers – 1; Two day MDP at GMC Anantnag; Baramulla Dhobiwan RIHFW and Women’s College.
The inaugural programme was held on 11th April 2023 where Dr. Yashpal Sharma Director (Coord) New Medical Colleges, Paramedical & Nursing colleges J&K (National President AHA India) was the Chief Guest . Kamal Saini Chairman Stephens College for nursing was also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Yashpal Sharma dwelled on the importance of conducting such programmes to enhance the management capabilities of the healthcare professionals and stressed that since healthcare has become a very demanding profession, such programmes become very important to enhance the skill-set of healthcare professionals to offer the best possible patient care besides maintaining highest standards of professionalism.
He further stressed that such conferences are helpful in pooling the wisdom of the many branches of healthcare which serve as guiding beacons for adopting best practice in every field. He also cited the examples of states like Kerala which have successfully achieved self sufficiency in healthcare and no longer depend on procuring medicines and other health related equipment from outside sources. He also stressed upon the ethical and legal issues involved in the profession and also the importance of public relations in Hospital and healthcare institutions. He further exhorted the healthcare professionals to focus on quality assurances and other challenges in management of clinical and emergency services.
He further suggested that all healthcare professionals should invest their time to re-learn the importance of communication and soft skills which has assumed critical importance in healthcare scenario.
Topics of Two Day State Level Management Development Programme (MDP) for Doctors & Nursing Professionals ( Govt. & Private) included Medical Negligence, Communication & Soft Skills, Women Empowerment & Development, Role of Nursing In Prevention of Hospital Infection, Ethical & Legal Issues Related to Nursing Management in Hospitals, Challenges in Management Clinical Services (Accident and Emergency Services Operation Theater), HR & Conflict Management, Disaster Management Role of Nursing Staff, Skilled Based Methods of Teaching and Learning & Bridging the Theory and Clinical Gap, Quality Assurance in nursing.

Medical Colleges, Paramedical & Nursing Colleges, J&K; Dr. Sonia Khajuria Associate Professor Govt. College for Women Parade Jammu; Dr. Arun Sharma Medical Superintendent MCH Jammu; Dr. Beena Jad Senior Consultant & Head Laboratory Medicines SMVDNSH, Katra; Prof. Munni Dhar Principal Stephens College for Nursing; Kavita Rana Associate Professor Stephens college for nursing; Shylaja S Shivanna Nursing Superintendent SMVDNSH, Katra; Dr. Shaista Ganai Medical Officer JKMSCL; Jony Kutty Josph Assistant Professor SMVD College of Nursing, Kakryal Katra
