Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Budgam at a checkpoint established at Waterwani intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during search, 7.4Kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in the nylon bag was recovered from his possession following which the accused was identified as Rohit Kumar S/o Duresh Chand R/o Mathiya Hardoi Uttar Pradesh who was later arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that it has accordingly registered a case vide FIR No. 86/2023 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Budgam and investigation has been taken up, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and reiterated that persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt strictly under law.
