Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has seized seven vehicles and also arrested eight personson charges of involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, Baramulla & Budgam districts of Kashmir valley.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, a police party led by SHO Police Station Pattan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohammad Nawaz seized four vehicles at Babagund Nallah Pattan and arrested five persons for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, adding therein that the arrested accused persons have been identified as Gh Rasool Bhat S/o Ab Majeed Bhat R/o Check Sari Pattan, Mohd Ramzan Dar S/o Ab Ahad R/o Check Jamal Mir, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir S/o Ab Gani Mir, Ishfaq Ahmad Khan S/o Mohd Yousuf Khan and Tariq Ahmad Khan S/o Sonaullah Khan, all residents of Babagund Pattan. “The accused persons have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody”, the statement reads further.
Stating that in a similar action in Budgam district also, Police Station Beerwah received inputs about illegal extraction of Boulder and Bajri from Nallah Sukhnah near Ohangam by some unknown tractor drivers and deputed a police party to the area which raided the specific spot and seized three tractors and arrested three drivers from the spot, Police in it’s statement further said that the accused persons have been identified as Mohammad Altaf Wani S/o Ghulam Mohammad Wani, Imtiyaz Ahmed Wani S/o Mohammad Subhan Wani and Sahil Ahmad Teli S/o Mohammad Sabir Teli, all residents of Ohnagam Beerwah, adding therein that accused persons were later shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Police in it’s statement furthermore saidthat it has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law in respective Police Stations and further investigation set into motion.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police warned that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
