Kashmir’s tulip garden situated on the foothills of Zabarwan over viewing the world famous Dal Lak blooming with 1.6 million tulip bulbs is these days a major source of attraction for tourists in Srinagar. The scenic beauty of this Asia’s biggest tulip garden has attracted the attention of even Prime Minister Narendra Modi who in one of his recent tweets said “Jammu and Kashmir is beautiful, and even more so during the Tulip season.” While this year the no of visitors has increased many a times than the previous years despite incessant rains witnessed during last one week in valley, the irrefutable fact is that the attraction of tourists at Srinagar tulip garden is a good beginning for this year’s tourist season like the previous year. Government setting up another tulip garden at Sanasar in Ramban district of Jammu division shows it’s increasing interest in making tulips the sources of attraction for tourists at the very commencement of tourist season annually in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. Tulips’ becoming a source of attraction for tourists at the very commencement of tourist season year after year is a good omen for the growth of tourism not only in Kashmir but also in Jammu division as well. While the unique landscape of Srinagar tulip garden makes it preferred destination for both local and foreign tourists in Kashmir, the initiative of Government’s Flouriculture Department to set up more and more tulip gardens if continued with greater intensity in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division is likely to attract more and more domestic and foreign tourists to Jammu & Kashmir at the very commencement of the tourist season annually.
“Increasing the no of tulip gardens won’t only show unprecedented rise in the inflow of tourists in Jammu & Kashmir but it would consequently further the causes of employability at most of the tourist destinations as well in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. Using tulips for the growth and development of tourism and increasing employability is likely to witness a new era of progress and prosperity more for people connected with the tourism and travel industry than for others in Jammu & Kashmir”.
Experiences of greater attraction of tourists for tulips should prompt the Government to identify more and more tourist places for setting up more and more tulip gardens for furthering the scope of early arrival of tourists at the commencement of summer season annually in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu.
