Jammu : The Motor Vehicles Department, headed by Regional Transport Officer Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra, set up checkpoints at various locations along the National Highway recently to enforce the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.
During the enforcement drive, more than 350 vehicles were checked. Of these, 67 vehicles were fined on the spot for a total of Rs 3.06 lakh and seven vehicles were issued challans for various violations such as operating without a route permit or fitness certificate, without a speed limiting device or with protruding rods. The expected revenue from these challans is Rs 1.25 lakh.
The enforcement team included ARTO (Flying Squad), Tara Mani Sharma; Motor Vehicles Inspectors, Rajeev Kundal, Ranjeev Bhasin and Anupam Gandotra; and other staff members of the Motor Vehicles Department.
