Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party led by SHO Police Station Yaripora at a checkpoint established at Kokergund crossing intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that dring checking, 5.65 kilogram of grinded cannabis was recovered from the said bag and the accused identified as Altaf Ahmad Nengroo S/o Abdul Rashid Nengroo R/o Budroo was later on arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that it has accordingly registered a case vide FIR No. 33/2023 under relevant sections of law in Police Station Yaripora and investigation has been also taken up, Police in the concluding para of it’s statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and reiterated that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, adding therein that consistent actions against drug peddlers show that efforts as per promises made to the people are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
