“SKIMS celebrates World Health Day”

SKIMS Celebrates World Health Day

Srinagar : World health day was celebrated on Friday at SKIMS on this year’s theme of WHO “Health for all”. The event was organized by the Department of Hospital Administration SKIMS.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office SKIMS here, Director SKIMS & EOSG Prof Parvaiz A. Koul who was the chief guest on the occasion in his address highlighted the main issues concerning the health system across the world. He said there is huge inequity in availability of health care-huge expenditure, mental illness, pregnancy related mortality etc. are still prevalent. In India despite the improvement in health delivery lack of accountability, unrelated drug policy, misuse of antibiotics are areas of main concern, he added. Prof. Koul stressed on uniform access to health systems and said onus lies on health care professionals and underlined the importance of healthy ageing. He further said that SKIMS is excelling in digital health care delivery and received 90% positive feedback for its services from general public. He thanked Department of Hospital Administration for organizing the event and expressed hope that the deliberations will be fruitful for participants attending the event.
Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS Dr. Bashir A. Laway in his address said that despite progress at many levels the non-communicable diseases still remain the main challenge. He also congratulated the Department of Hospital Administration for conducting this academic program.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr. Farooq A. Jan in his address underscored the importance of celebrating the world Health Day. He highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the health system and said that inequalities in health system needs to be addressed. Low cost of care, insurance schemes like Ayushman Bharat are the main strengths in existing health system, however, unregulated private sector, lack of accountability, medical errors, antibiotic resistance need to be focused on.
Dr. G H Yatoo, HOD Hospital Administration SKIMS and organizing Chairman of the event greeted the guests and audience for attending the event. He gave the introductory remarks and spoke about the current health problems and its impact. The event was attended by all HoDs , Resident doctors and other supportive staff of SKIMS. The event was concluded with the vote of thanks.
