Changing Power Scenario In J&K

Amid restructuring of Jammu & Kashmir Power Development Corporation Lt (J&K PDCL) that started with the segregation of generation, transmission and distribution systems the focus is presently on reducing the revenue deficit and improve the power supply in both Kashmir Valley and Jammu division. Installation of smart meters, night inspections and disconnection drive against the defaulters is the three pronged strategy the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) has started in Kashmir Valley and Jammu Power Development Corportation Ltd (JPDCL) is pursuing in Jammu division. Though public protests against the installation of smart meters is a big challenge for the Government in Jammu & Kashmir but with focus on revenue collection and improvement in power supply the consumers have started cooperating with the functionaries of power development corporation in the ongoing process of the installation of smart meters both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. While irrefutable fact is that J&K Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKPDCL) is still far away from the target of 100% smart meter installation but with every passing day the installation of smart meters is being carried out despite resistance from the consumers in more and more urban and rural areas both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division.. While the fact remains that the target of 100% smart meter installation can’t be completed overnight but it will still take more one or two years to complete the process, the focus on revenue collection through disconnection drive against the defaulters will most probably reduce the revenue deficit in coming one or two years. Overcoming the revenue deficit would probably reduce the liabilities of J&K Power Development Power Corporation Ltd and also help it to create new assets for strengthening the generation, distribution and also the transmission systems of the power sector in Jammu & Kashmir.

“Striking a balance between commercial priorities and social obligations is the only way to further the causes of consumer satisfaction for the J&K Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKPDCL) in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. After all the spirit of customer satisfaction lies in the reliable and affordable power supply to the consumers in Jammu & Kashmir like their contemporaries in other parts of the country”.

While overcoming the revenue deficit is a priority for the purposes of stabilising the generation, distribution and transmission systems of the power sector, the protection of the interests of consumers also deserves attention of the J&K Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKPDCL) controlled by the Jammu & Kashmir Government. Never forget that protection of consumer’s basic interests is as important as is the restructuring of power sector. So Striking a balance between commercial priorities and social obligations is the only way to further the causes of consumer satisfaction for the J&K Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKPDCL) in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. After all the spirit of customer satisfaction lies in the reliable and affordable power supply to the consumers in Jammu & Kashmir like their contemporaries in other parts of the country.
