Jammu : Director General J&K Police Dilbag Singh on Thursday said that while militancy in Jammu & Kashmir is declining fast the Police has launched a massive campaign to root out drug menace from Jammu & Kashmir.
Presiding over “Thana Diwas” event at Hajin Police Station in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district the DGP said that ‘Thana Diwas’ is an initiative to extend Police services to the people of J&K and is a means to further develop police public relations. He said that J&K Police has been putting its efforts to eradicate the drug menace in JK and to aware the people, especially youth, about its ill effects. “We have to take action against all those involved in drug peddling and its trade,” he added. Police chief appreciated the cooperation of the people on different fronts of policing and said that the Police, Security Forces and the people of J&K would continue to work together to foil the intentions of anti peace elements. He said that some elements are disturbed by witnessing flourishing peace in J&K and are making attempts to disturb it. He said besides J&K Police, and other security forces, it’s the responsibility of the people to consolidate this peace further. On this occasion, the DGP listened to the grievances and issues of the public patiently and assured that the highlighted demands and issues would be addressed.
Talking to reporters DGP said militancy is surely declining rapidly and the security forces are working hard to eliminate the remaining militants. He said the youth, who in the past were getting trapped to the false propaganda and got lured into militant activities, are now following their careers in competitive exams and sports. “The youth and the people have understood the false narrative that was being run from across”, adding that the people of Kashmir have rejected that narrative and they are now contributing to the peace.
On whether weapons and narcotics dropped by drones was still a challenge, DGP said that Police & CAPFs have achieved a huge success in foiling the designs of enemies to air-drop cash, IEDs, weapons and narcotics through drones. “Though the activity is less than what we have been noticing in the past, air-dropping of weapons through drones still takes place in many border areas. We have seized huge quantities of weapons, money and narcotics and such bids are continuously being foiled,” DGP said.
Moreover, Dilbagh Singh said that police have launched a massive campaign to root-out drug menace in J&K and those involved in supplying drugs to other parts of J&K and even Punjab are being tracked and strict action is being taken against them. “JKP is running drug de-addiction centers across J&K successfully to provide help and assistance to the affected persons and there are demands from other parts of J&K also on which we are working to expand these drug de-addiction centers wherever possible,” the DGP said.
The DGP on his arrival at Police Station Hajin was received by DIG NKR, Vivek Gupta and SSP Bandipora Lakshay Sharma and was presented Guard of Honour on his arrival. He then presided over a Thana Diwas function in which a large number of people including PRIs, Sports athletes, social activists and locals participated and put up their genuine demands.
