Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from his possession. Police also said that in last three (03) months, 113 drug peddlers have been arrested, 7 detained under PSA, 75 cases registered under NDPS Act and contraband worth crores have been also recovered in Baramulla.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party headed by SHO Police Station Kunzer under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Javaid Ahmad at a checkpoint established at Batpora Kunzer intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during checking, 48 grams of Charas like substance were recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Firdous Ahmad Mir S/o Gh Mohammad Mir R/o Gonipora Kunzer who has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that it has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Kunzer and initiated investigation into the matter, Police in it’s statement further said that that during the past three months of the current year, Police in Baramulla have registered 75 cases under NDPS Act and arrested 113 drug peddlers, detained 7 drug peddlers under PSA & recovered contraband substances including Brown Sugar, Charas and Poppy Straw/Cannabis Powder worth crores besides, also seized 11 vehicles.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police reassured the people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
