Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla, Kulgam & Shopian districts and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla district a police party of Police Station Kunzer assisted by SHO PS Kunzer during patrolling at Lalpora Kunzer apprehended a suspicious person who was carrying a polythene bag as two Kgs of grinded cannabis leaves was recovered from the possession of the accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Kulgam district a specific information was generated by Kulgam Police from credible sources regarding transportation of drugs in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kulgam following which a police party of PS Kulgam led by SHO PS Kulgam established a checkpoint at Chawalgam Chowk and intercepted a suspected person identified as Shabroz Ahmad Itoo S/o Abdul Ahad Itoo R/o Chawalgam carrying a bag. Police in it’s statement also said that during checking 3.5 kgs of grinded cannabis was recovered from the said bag and the said accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in yet another similar action in Shopian district a police party at a checkpoint established at Kundallan intercepted a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK22C-1395 driven by Basharat Hussain Shah S/o Saif-ul-lah Shah R/o Kharwara Shopian and upon chechking 4.5 Kgs of crushed poppy straw, 4 Kgs of charas powder, 5 grams of heroin concealed in two (2) bags were recovered from the possession of the said accused, Police in it’s statement further said that a weighing machine & grinder was also recovered from the vehicle. Police in it’s statement also said that the drug peddler has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and the vehicle has also been seized.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been also initiated into the matter, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement reassured the people that efforts are to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
