Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested 4 drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam district a police party of Police Station DH Pora headed by SHO PS DH Pora at a checkpoint established at Kounsarbal intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party, adding therein that during searches 110 grams of charas were recovered the possession of the said accused identified as Aejaz Ahmad Malik S/o Abdul Rashid Malik R/o Ahmadabad who was subsequently shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Kulgam district a police party of Police Station Qazigund led by SHO PS Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Dalwach Qazigund intercepted a suspicious person identified as Gazanfar Ahmad Wani S/o Mohammad Yousuf Wani R/o Banihal and during searches recovered 2 grams of brown sugar from his possession, Police in it’s statement further said that the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in Baramulla district also, a Police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri, assisted by SHO PS Boniyar, at a checkpoint established at Chellan Boniyar arrested 2 drug peddlers identified as Wazir Ahmad Joo S/o Ali Mohammad R/o Trikanjan & Syed Shahid Hussain S/o Syed Abid Hussain R/o Gingal, adding therein that during checking, 120 grams of Charas and cash amount of 10,000/- (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) was recovered from the possession of the above named accused who were shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations were registered at concerned police station and investigation were also subsequently initiated, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement reassured the people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
