Jammu : A group of 182 volunteers in Jammu have completed practical training as part of the 12th batch of “Aapda Mitra” volunteers under the Government of India sponsored scheme “Upscaling of Aapda Mitra”. The training was conducted at SDRF 2nd Battalion Headquarters in Gandhi Nagar and included demonstrations on fire-fighting, flood rope crossing, rappelling, climbing and rescue from higher buildings.
Deputy Director, Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction (DMRR&R), Lalit Bhat was the chief guest at the event. He praised the trainees for their active participation and involvement in the training and announced that the target set by the Government of India for imparting training to Aapda Mitra volunteers had been successfully achieved by J&K. He also appreciated the role of SDRF J&K in making the training successful.
SSP Commandant, SDRF 2nd Battalion Jammu, Atul Sharma, elaborated that during these trainings, volunteers were sensitised about different aspects of disaster management including water rescue and mountaineering rescue. Resource persons from SDRF, experts from Fire & Emergency Services Department and Police MRT team provided instruction.
Deputy SP Principal CTI HG/CD Jammu, Dev Raj and Deputy SP (Training) SDRF 2nd Battalion, Mohinder Pal highlighted activities undertaken by Aapda Mitra volunteers during the training programme and distributed certificates to participants.
Deputy SP, Arvinder Kotwal and Daljit Singh; Inspectors Sanjeev Kalsi, Vishal Dubey and Sunil Sharma along with Instructors Kuldeep Singh and Aman Singh were also present at the event.
