Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested five extortionists involved in blackmailing, threatening and extortion in Shalteng Sheeri area of Baramulla and also recovered extortion money from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said Police Station Sheeri received a written complaint from one person (name withheld) wherein he alleged that on 27th of February 2023 while he was on way to his home five persons reportedly drug addicts, assaulted him at Shalteng Sheeri and extorted Rs.20000 from him.
Stating that on the said complaint, a case under relevant section of law was registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation was initiated, Police in it’s statement further said that during the course of investigation and strenuous efforts, all the five accused persons were arrested and subsequently identified as Nasir Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Amin R/o Shalteng Sheeri, Irshad Ahmad Malla S/o Ghulam Din, Umar Akbar Ganie S/o Mohd Akbar, Tajamul Bashir Malla S/o Bashir Ahmad & Waseem Ahmad Malla S/o Manzoor Ahmad Malla, all residents of Sheeri Baramulla. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that extorted money totaling to Rs 20000/- was also recovered from their possession and the arrested persons were taken to Police Station where they remain in custody.
