Social Forestry Deptt kick-starts Chinar plantation drive at Kupwara

Kupwara : To mark the celebration of Chinar Day, the Department of Social Forestry Kupwara on Thursday launched a Plantation drive across Kupwara district.
The main function was organised at Green Indian Mission (GIM) closure at Nutnoosa where DFO Social Forestry, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Bhat kick-started Chinar plantation drive by planting Chinar saplings within the premises of closure.
More than 60 Chinar saplings were planted at different locations in collaboration with Army, Local PRIs and local school children.
On the occasion, 600 high density walnut saplings were also planted and more than 500 High density walnut plants were distributed among local PRIs and farmers.
Officers from the department of Social Forestry informed that this year the department will plant Chinar saplings and high density walnut trees in various areas and community lands in the district.
Range Officer Social Forestry Kupwara, Sajad Qazi, Block Development officer (BDO) Nutnoosa, Arif Ayaz Dar, Major Azahar of 47 Rashtriya Rifles, and other officers and local PRIs also participated in this Chinar plantation drive.
DFO Social Forestry urged the public to plant more and more Chinar trees and take all necessary steps to conserve and preserve the existing plants.
