9 drug peddlers arrested in Bla, B’gam & Kulgam distts, contraband substances also recovered : Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested seven drug peddlers including a sarpanch in Baramulla, Budgam & Kulgam districts and also recovered contraband substances and psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla district a police party under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Baramulla Peerzada Aijaz Ahmad assisted by In-charge PP Delina PSI Showkat Ahmad, at a checkpoint established near Hyundai Showroom Rawathpora Delina intercepted a vehicle (Scorpio) bearing registration No. DL4CNB-9313 with four persons on board identified as Majid Ahmad Sheikh S/o Javaid Ahmad Sheikh R/o Muqaam Rajwara Handwara, Farooq Ahmad Malik (Sarpanch Singhpora) S/o Ghulam Hassan Malik R/o Singhpora Pattan, Sajad Ahmad Sheikh S/o Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh R/o Raipora Palhallan Pattan & Faisal Ahmad Wani S/o Zahoor Ahmad Wani R/o Wani Mohalla Pattan. Police in it’s statement further said that during checking, 40 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from their possession following which the said accused were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Stating therein further that vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s statement also said that in a similar action a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali assisted by DySP Prob Kubra Nazir arrested a drug peddler at Bimyar Boniyar and during searches recovered from him 35 grams of Charas from his possession, Stating therein further that the said accused was identified as Riyaz Ahmad Shah S/o Lateef Ahmad Shah R/o Pehlipora and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
In yet another similar action Police said that in Budgam district a police party of Police Station Magam at a checkpoint established near Sehpora Bridge intercepted 2 suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended by the alert police party, Stating therein further that during searches 50 grams of Charas and 240 capsules of Spasmo-Proxyvon were recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Shafaat Ramzan Ganaie @ Danish S/o Mohammad Ramzan Ganaie and Adil Ahmad Ganaie S/o Ali Mohammad Ganaie residents of Hanjibugh Magam who were later shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that in yet another similar action in Kulgam district a police party of Police station Qazigund headed by SHO PS Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Bonigam intercepted a suspicious person carrying a gunny bag and during search recovered 4Kgs of charas from the said bag, Police in it’s statement said that the said accused was identified as Bilal Ahmad Reshi S/O Bashir Ahmad Reshi R/O Nawa Bonigam, Qazigund and subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in yet another similar action a police party from Police Station Kund Kulgam led by PS SHO Kund at a checkpoint established at Razloo crossing intercepted a suspicious person identified as Rahil Ahmad Shah S/o Mohammad Afzal Shah R/o Churat and during searches recovered 5 grams of brown sugar from his possession after which the said accused was arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody.
Stating that police has registered cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and further investigation is in progress, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement appealed people at large to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
