Doda: Medical teams from the District Leprosy Society Doda and the Office of Chief Medical Officer Doda organised a leprosy awareness campaign in village Kansar in Medical Block Bhaderwah on Thursday, following the detection of a new case of Leprosy Grade-II in GMC Jammu recently. The campaign was conducted under the direction of the CMO Doda.
During the campaign, four teams visited all the houses in the village to educate people about the signs and symptoms of Leprosy disease and examine suspects, referring them to UPS Kansar where they were examined by Dr. Adil Hameed Dar. The teams comprised of one male and one female member.
Dr. Aadil Hamid Mir and Surinder Singh Bijyal (PMA Supervisor) spoke on the occasion and educated people that Leprosy is a common curable infection like other infections. They also refuted the myths and social stigma associated with the disease, emphasizing that it is not a communicable disease.
During the camp, the medical teams treated a total of 46 patients of skin and other diseases, providing them with free medicines. They also gave a single dose of Rab. Rifampicin to close contacts of newly detected patients.
The staff of Sub Centre Dhareja extended their support to make the awareness camp successful. The team included Om Parkash Shan (Sr Health Inspector), Krishan Chand (Sr PMA), Ram Raj (PMA), Sajad Hussain (PMA), Sudarshan Singh (BHW), Poonam Devi (FMPHW), Akhtara Begum (FMPHW) and concerned ASHAs of the area.
