5 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam, B’la; Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested 5 drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla districts and also recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of PS Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Noonmai arrested a drug peddler identified as Bashir Ahmad Khan S/o Gull Mohammad Khan R/o Matipora and during searches recovered 5 Kgs of poppy straw concealed in a polythene bag following which he was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Anantnag district a police team led by IC PP Mirbazar while acting on a specific inputs about the presence of narcotics at a suspected location in the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar, raided the said suspected location at Nippora and during searches recovered 4 Kgs of poppy straw, 1 digital weighing machine and 1 mixer from the residential house of Nisar Ahmad Khanday S/o Bashir Ahmad Khanday, Police in it’s statement said that the owner of the house along with his associate were identified as Pawan Sharma S/o Deewan Chand Sharma R/o RS Pora A/P Nippora and subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement said that in yet another similar action a police party of PS Uri at a checkpoint established at Bandi Uri arrested two drug peddlers identified as Syed Mubeen Hussain S/o Syed Iqbal Hussain R/o Niloosa & Mohd Arif Khan S/o Khadim Khan R/o Bagna Noorkhah and during searches recovered 86 grams of Charas from their possession following which they were later on shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that it has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement said that their consistent actions against drug peddlers show commitment to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace. Police on this occasion appealed people to cooperate with police in the battle against the drug menace and appealed people to share any information regarding anti-social activity in their neighborhood with the nearby police units .
