JKRLM UMEED celebrates International Women’s Day with members of SHGs

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission, UMEED, on Wednesday celebrated International Women’s Day at Panchayat Bhawan here.
Mission Director JKRLM, Indu Kanwal Chib; Additional Mission Director JKRLM Jammu, Mridhu Slathia; Director Social Audit, Shafia Naqashbandi, women from several Self Help Groups (SHGs) and other concerned participated in the event.
This year’s theme, “Digit ALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlights the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls.
The event witnessed a session wherein members of different SHGs from Jammu division shared their stories their how they made their identity through UMEED programme of JKRLM.
While addressing the event, Mission Director JKRLM, Indu Kanwal Chib, impressed upon the SHGs to make innovation and digital skills as their weapon as everything goes through digital process. She asked them to invest in them through digital gadgets and update themselves to remain in a race in this digital age.
She said through this, the women will be able to develop the necessary digital skills to engage in digital spaces which will increase their opportunities to pursue careers in different fields.
While speaking on the occasion, Director Social Audit said that the women’s day would be celebrated in real sense when women will be free to take her decision in all her fields.
Additional Mission Director JKRLM Jammu, Mridhu Slathia, said that JKRLM is already working on several digital innovations and digital skilling and UMEED is one scheme which is changing lives of rural women on ground.
She added that by providing women with innovation and technology it would help to create more solutions besides promoting gender equality in the society.
