Comr Secy SWD chairs Int’l Women Day celebration

Jammu : Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda, on Wednesday chaired celebration of International Women Day organized by Mission Shakti Department of Social Welfare her at Conventional Centre.
During the program, various eminent women who have done excellent work in different spheres of life were felicitated by the Mission Shakti.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheetal Nanda said that violence against women has consistently being rising not only in our country but throughout world which is an alarming situation. To combat this menace from the society, sensitization of men as well as women is need of the hour, she added. She emphasized massive awareness regarding gender equality and rights of the women.
She further stated that Mission Shakti through District Hub for empowerment of Women, Women Helpline and Sakhi Centres (OSC) are constantly working towards empowering and facilitating the women in distress.
During the program, various cultural programmes were presented by the participants besides sharing of success stories by the women participants.
Secretary in Social Welfare Department, Rachna Sharma, Director General Social Welfare Department, Jammu, Vivek Sharma, Mission Director, Mission Shakti, Harvinder Kour and other female officers from various line departments, school children and dignitaries were present on the occasion.
