5 drug peddlers arrested, Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Handwara, Kulgam and Bandipora and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Tuesday Police said that in Handwara, a police party of Police Station Kralgund during patrolling at Humpora crossing on Baramulla-Handwara highway intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party, Stating therein further that during searches 102 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. Police in it’s statement also said that the said accused was identified as Feroz Ahmad Khan S/O Abdul Ahad Khan R/O Panditpora after which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Kulgam district a police party of Police Post Mirbazar led by In-charge PP Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Nippora crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration PB02-DZ-9045 driven by Lovepreet Singh S/O Labhaia Masih R/O Gurdaspur, Punjab and during searches recovered 6 kgs of Poppy Straw from the said vehicle, Police in it’s statement further said that the accused was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that while acting on specific inputs about drug peddling a police party led by SHO PS Behibagh established multiple checkpoints at different places and at one such checkpoint established at Batpora crossing, a police party led by SHO PS Behibagh intercepted a suspicious person identified as Fayaz Ahmad Lone S/O Abdul Rashid Lone R/O Melhora, Shopian, Stating therein further that during checking 10grams of heroin were recovered from his possession and the accused was subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in yet another similar action a police party of PS Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Turigam intercepted a suspicious person identified as Afroz Ahmad Bhat S/O Late Bashir Ahmad Bhat R/O Wanpora, Qaimoh and during searches recovered 10grams of heroin and cash amount of ₹20000/= (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) from his possession, Police in it’s statement said that the above named accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in Bandipora also a police party of Police Station Sumbal at a checkpoint established at Ganasthan Nowgam Sumbal arrested a drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Beigh R/O Ganasthan Nowgam Sumbal, Stating therein further that 3.05kgs of charas powder was recovered from the possession of the said drug peddler who was subsequently shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been also initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, assuring therein that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
