Srinagar : Police on Monday claimed to have arrested an accused person who was involved in illicit timber exportation in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs regarding timber smuggling a police party led by SHO PS Gund under the supervision of SDPO Kangan raided the upper reaches of forest cover at Compartment No.36 Sindh Range Kangan and seized the illegally dumped forest timber dumped in the compartment, Stating therein further that smuggler was arrested and identified as Muneer Ahmed Bijran S/o Dilpazeer Bijran R/o Hilpati Gund.
Police in it’s statement further said “during preliminary questioning, it came to the fore that the accused had cut down forest trees and kept them hidden in the forest compartment with the intention to sell the illicit timber”.
Stating that a case vide FIR No. 08/2023 has been registered under relevant sections of law at PS Gund and investigation has been initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement said that the drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold, Stating therein further that consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the people that it has been making every possible effort to keep society free of crime. Police also resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal & anti-social activities.
