Kathua: In its endeavour to keep a regular check on the menace of traffic violation, a team of Motor Vehicles Department, Kathua under Regional Transport Officer, Sunil Kumar seized two vehicles and imposed spot fine/ challan on 23 other vehicles.
As informed by RTO Kathua, “all 23 vehicles were booked under various sections of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 & rules framed thereunder”. He further said “during the special drive, vehicles were found violating sections 66/192(Route Permit violation), 194D, 201, 194C, 194(1A), 177, 3/181, 158/177, SLD Tempered, 184 (Dangerous Driving) and indulging in other miscellaneous offences”.
The checking squads comprised of ARTO, MVI, MGTA Ashwani Kumar and other officials.
In addition to challaning/ compounding, the drivers were also sensitized about the importance of safe driving, including seat belt, helmet, fitness of vehicles, hazards of using mobile phone, importance of maintaining of speed limits and various other traffic laws.
The RTO further informed that such surprise checking drives go a long way in aggrandizing traffic discipline in the area. He cautioned traffic violators not to repeat traffic violations, as Department in future is in the process of evaluate the driving skill on a scale of 10 points and every repeated violations shall deduct 03 points from the scale defined thereby cancellation of the Driving License of the traffic violators.
