Mahila Sammelan held at Shopian; DC honors women achievers with certificate of appreciation

Economic empowerment of rural women through community mobilisation, participatory governance changing economic landscape: SK Vaishya

Shopian: In connection with celebrations of International Women’s Day, being celebrated on 8th of March every year, a district level Women’s Sammelan was o Saturday held at Shopian.
A large number of women gathered together to celebrate the contribution of women towards betterment of the economic and social life of the community.
Women entrepreneurs, officials of Poshan Abhiyaan, Health, SHG members, and various other departments and social organisations came together to celebrate the workplace equality and to retrieve their commitment towards the society.
The occasion was graced by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, who while appreciating the women’s contribution, said that “Today is a day to celebrate the spirit of all women, who have played extraordinary roles in shaping their families, society and organizations with an untiring determination”.
Our country is one of the few places that boast of showcasing extraordinary women from very early times. The legendary women from the J&K also have played a dynamic role in reshaping the life of the modern day women, said the DC.
He further beseeched that more and more women should be put in the leadership roles and given the opportunity to take decisions while emphasising the decision making ability of the women.
The appreciation certificates were distributed among the women achievers by DC who have excelled in diverse fields and brought economic empowerment through SHGs, community mobilisation and participatory governance across the length and breadth of the district.
Many women achievers who spoke on the occasion emphasized upon the role of systemic merit and equity in providing them viable opportunities for their economic excellence and empowerment. They spoke on diverse fields of how they are bringing changes in their lives through entrepreneurship, venturing into govt. contracts, establishing manufacturing units, excelling in govt. jobs.
Among others the event was attended by ACD, Hilal Ahmad Jiri; District Coordinator JK-RLM, Uzma Mehraj and others.
