Though power cuts have been reduced in Srinagar and other urban areas of Kashmir Valley just a week ago but the power curtailment schedule surprisingly remains unchanged in Villages across Kashmir. Irrefutable fact is that the accessibility to power supply is as good a concern to the consumers in Villages as it is to the consumers in cities and towns in any part of the country and same holds good for the power consumers in Jammu & Kashmir . Interestingly the withdrawal of power curtailment schedule is as much over due to consumers in Village as it is in cities and towns in Kashmir Valley. While the tourist season is about to commence within a month or so and examinations by J&K Board of School Education too have been started, the withdrawal of power curtailment schedule is almost overdue not only in Srinagar and major town but even in the remotest of the remote areas in Kashmir Valley. As Lt Governor Manoj Sinha himself during inauguration of some receiving stations in Srinagar talked about the improvement in the transmission and distribution system across Kashmir , the delay in complete withdrawal power curtailment schedule goes against not only the assurances of Lt Government but also the very basic spirits of public convenience both in urban and rural parts of Kashmir Valley. What matters the most is the fact that unprecedented fall in peak power loads also necessitates the withdrawal of power curtailment schedule both in urban and rural parts of Kashmir for the purposes of hassle free power supply not only to residential areas but also to hotels and guest houses in view of huge advance booking by tourists who will hopefully arriving Kashmir from both within and outside the country before the end of March keeping in view of the experiences of last year’s huge tourist inflow in Kashmir Valley.
“While checking the power pilferage attempts during nights and collecting pending power tariff bills have reduced the losses in the power distribution in Kashmir, the complete withdrawal of power curtailment schedule now overdue in both urban and rural parts of Kashmir if announced immediately would by all standards of understandabilities bring relief and respite to both residential and commercial power consumers across Kashmir”.
What furthers the scope for complete withdrawal of power curtailment schedule from both urban and rural parts of Kashmir Valley is the fact that losses have reduced after the launch of disconnection drives launched for the purposes of the collection of pending power tariff bills and the night inspections for the purposes of checking the pilferage attempts by consumer during the nights across Kashmir. While checking the power pilferage attempts during nights and collecting pending power tariff bills have reduced the losses in the power distribution in Kashmir, the complete withdrawal of power curtailment schedule now overdue in both urban and rural parts of Kashmir if announced immediately would by all standards of understandabilities bring relief and respite to both residential and commercial power consumers across Kashmir.
