9 drug peddlers arrested, contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested 9 drug peddlers in Kulgam & Baramulla districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs a police party led by SHO PS Qaimoh Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Byepass intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number DL7CR-8749 with 2 persons onboard identified as Yawer Ahmad Rather S/o Abdul Gani Rather R/o Waghama, Bijebhara and Zeeshan Ashraf S/o Mohd Ashraf Bakshi R/o Pehro Anantnag and during searches recovered 50Kgs of Poppy Straw recovered from the said vehicle, Stating therein further that the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action in Baramulla district also a police party assisted by In-charge PP Palhallan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohammad Nawaz established a surprise checkpoint at Palhallan Morh Pattan and during checking tactfully apprehended a suspicious person carrying a handbag tried despite his abortive attempt to flee from the spot , Stating therein further that during checking 200 tablets of Spasmoproxyvon and 10 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from the said handbag after which the accused was arrested and identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Sofi S/o Mohd Sidiq Sofi R/o Bazar Mohalla Pattan following which he was shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Police in it’s above referred statement furthermore said that during questioning, the arrested person revealed that he is a contractual employee of Health Department and is presently posted at Trauma Hospital Pattan as ambulance driver.
Stating that in yet another similar action, a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla Sajjad Bukhari, assisted by DySP (Prob) Naveed Qazi and SHO PS Baramulla during routine patrolling at Dewanbagh Baramulla arrested 2 drug peddlers and during searches recovered 295 grams of charas from their possession, Police in it’s statement said that the accused have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh & Sharif Ahmad Sheikh S/o Abdul Rashid Sheikh, both residents of Dewanbagh Baramulla, who were later on have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said thar a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali- assisted by SHO PS Boniyar Insp Tariq Ahmad arrested a drug peddler during naka checking at Bela Boniyar and during searches recovered 28 grams of charas from his possession, Stating therein further that the arrested person have been identified as Sikwahat Khan S/o Balik Hussain Khan R/o Daragutliyan Uri who has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in yet another simiarl action, a police party of Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established at main market Boniyar arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Sameer Ahmad Khan S/o Zahoor ullah Khan R/o Dawaran Uri and during searches recovered 15 grams of Heroin from his possession following which he was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Furthermore Police in it’s statement said that under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla Sajjad Bukhari, assisted by DySP (Prob) Naveed Qazi, SHO PS Baramulla during routine patrolling at Singhbagh Khawajabagh Baramulla arrested 2 drug peddlers and during searches recovered 250 grams of charas their possession following which they were identified as Tariq Ahmad Sheikh & Aashiq Ahmad Sheikh S/o Faqir Mohammad Sheikh, both residents of Singhbagh Khawajabagh, Stating therein further that the accused have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating further cases were registered under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and investigation has been also been initiated, Police in the concluding par of the above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
