Jammu : Silk Technical Service Center, CSTRI, Central Silk Board, Miran Sahib Jammu, a one day Technical Upgradation Program entitled Recent Advances in Mulberry Silk Technology and Schemes Schemes was organized Thursday in Udyog Bhawan, Rail Head Jammu for reelers and weavers in coordination with Handicrafts and handloom, department Jammu.
The Technical Upgradation Programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Baldev Singh Baloria; Director, Handicraft and Handloom, Jammu Division, Dr Vikas Gupta; Additional Director, Silk Development Department, Ashwani Kumar Sharma; Scientist and Zonal officer, Central Silk Board, Jammu, N S Gahlot and other dignitaries lighted the lamp.
N. S. Gahlot Scientist, Silk Technical Service Center, Meera Sahib, Jammu, N S Gahot, while addressing the participants, said that we are constantly trying to make India self -sufficient in silk production. There has been a lot of improvement in silk cocoon quality and yarn. Now our focus is to develop value added products by connecting the silk industry with handloom weavers and artisans.
The scientist awared that handloom weavers of Jammu division can make a profit by using various silk yarn and its blends like silk-wool, silk-cotton on the their handloo Various latest handlooms, reeling machines are available on 80-90 % subsidy basis as Jammu and Kashmir is falls under special state status. Hence, it is opportunity to make value added diversified products which will make a profit and can supply as per market demand. Gahlot urged the silk exporters, traders, weavers of Jammu division to come forward so that Efforts can be made to make the latest style clothes.
Gahlot has given technical information about the silk in the technical up- gradation program Thursday to women weavers, members of weaving committees and handicrafts artisans. He has urged to participants to promote clothes and it quality on handlooms made with new technology of Central Silk Board. He offered to beneficiaries and suggested to apply for getting subsidy based handlooms, jacquard, warping machine, twisting machine, dyeing, printing and finishing machines.
Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director, Handicraft and Handloom, Jammu Division said that in the last two years, about 4000 people have been trained. In ten districts of Jammu Division, there are about 150 hanndicrafts training centers and 50 handloom centers are running for rural mass. The scientists of the silk technical service center Jammu and their technical teams are cooperating in handloom development work.
Chief Guest, Deputy Mayor, JMC, B S Baloria appreciated the efforts of silk technical service center, Central Silk Board Jammu and emphasizes on various schemes of Central Govt. for beneficiaries. He told that it is a good initiative for development of silk farmers and artisans. Deputy Mayor expressed happiness at the silk stall by seeing the process of silk products and the process of thread making as well as blended silk /cocoon, silk wool yarns/ fabrics. He also visited to exhibit stall of silk products at the programme centre.
Assistant Director, Handicraft and Handloom, Janipur Jammu, Sonika Parihar showed all the handicrafts products produced by the local women group, which was appreciated by all the participants. Multi value items can be produced by handicraft which will befits to all artisans. She also shown a video of rural artisans and various traditional products. In this technical up-gratdation programme, apart from dignitaries officers from Handicraft and Handloom, Shavi Deputy Director, training incharge H&H, joint Director, Satish Thaploo, Project Officer, Jammu and Kashmir Industries, and his team, Santosh Kumar, Scientist of Central Silk Board, Pawan Kumar Sharma and BD Maandi, Jagdish Raj Sr TA, Dr. Wali Professor of SKUAST Sericulture Department, about 40 women weavers from Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts, handloom committee chairman and representative of reelers Rajni and other Central Government and State Government officials including Silk Industry, Textile
Exporters, Silk Udhami, businessmen, Weaver representatives were present. More than 100 entrepreneurs, realers, weavers, officials of the state and center offices participated in the technical up-gadation program.
