Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested six persons on charges of involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Baramulla and Budgam district and also seized six vehicles from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Budgam, a police party of Police Station Budgam during naka checking at Sebdan Crossing intercepted 2 trippers bearing registration numbers JK01K-8363 and JK01AL-6214 who were carrying illegally excavated minerals, Stating therein further that both the vehicles were seized and 2 persons (drivers of the said vehicles) were arrested on spot for their involvement in the commission of crime. Police in it’s statement also said that the accused have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Mir S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir R/o Qadipora and Muzamil Bilal S/o Bilal Ahmad Wani R/o Nasrullapora.
Similarly in Baramulla district also, Police in the above referred statement said four persons were arrested and four vehicles were seized for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, Stating therein that officers from PP Palhallan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan seized two tractors and arrested two persons at Dargam Nallah Palhallan. Stating that both the drivers were identified as Jahangir Ahmad Magloo S/o Abdul Majeed Magloo R/o Bangdara Kreeri and Abdul Majeed Rather S/o Ghulam Mohd Rather R/o Nehalpora Pattan, Police in it’s statement further said that similarly at Khore Sherabad Pattan, a police party of PP Kungamdara seized 2 Tractors and arrested two drivers identified as Shabir Ahmad Wani S/o Ab Gani Wani & Fayaz Ahmad Ganie S/o Gh Hassan Ganie, both residents of Shirpora Pattan for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
Police in it’s statement also said that the arrested accused persons have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, Stating therein further that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been also initiated.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement Police said that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt with as per lawand appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
